A virtual zen garden for a quiet break
Silent Sand is a free online sand raking game inspired by Japanese dry landscape gardens. Draw ripples, circles, and flowing lines in the sand, arrange stones, and build your own little garden in your browser. Start with a blank canvas and take your time, or switch to a challenge when you want a goal.
How to rake your sand garden
- Choose Zen mode and drag your mouse or finger across the sand to draw grooves.
- Open Options and choose Rake to change the rake size, tine count, and spacing. On desktop, hold Shift and use the scroll wheel to rotate the rake.
- Choose Stone to place rocks or Eraser to remove strokes and stones. Try the symmetry tools for repeating patterns.
- Use Undo and Redo to revise a stroke, or Clear Sand to begin again. The Saves menu lets you keep a garden for later.

To the Core: uncover the daily quote
Dig through layers of earth to reveal a hidden zen quote. The ground becomes harder as you go deeper, and a new quote awaits each day.
Infestation: a slime cleanup challenge
Scrub an alien infestation from the garden with a fixed solid rake. Keep up with the spreading slime; darker strains appear later and need repeated scrubs. See how long you can survive.
Frequently asked questions
Is Silent Sand free to play?
The sand garden and game modes are free to play in your browser. Optional Premium themes are available. You do not need to download or install an app to start.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Use a modern browser and drag your finger on the sand to rake it. A desktop gives you more room for the tools and adds the Shift + scroll wheel rake rotation control.
Do I need an account?
You can start raking without signing in. Optional Google sign-in keeps your challenge and social identity across devices.
Can I save or share my garden?
Use the Saves menu to keep gardens in this browser. Share Garden lets you post a creation to the community. Local saves stay on your device, so clearing browser data can remove them.
What should I draw first?
Place a stone, draw a few curved lines around it, then fill the remaining sand with parallel strokes. Change the rake spacing to compare wide ripples with finer lines. There is no required pattern in Zen mode.
